VERILY, VERILY I SAY ONTO YOU!” MASSMISS DOES A CASSANDRA
Greetings from lockdown, gentle reader. It may be that I’ve been living alone too long, brooding on the sorry state of the world in general and the current US administration in particular – nevertheless, in my role as Cassandra, mad prophetess of doom, I am going to put a stake in the ground and lay a prophecy on you.
by Evelyn De Morgan (1855-1919)
This is how I think The Last Days of Trump will play out:
Verily, verily I say onto you, Trump will not win the election; he will lose in a landslide in spite of the best efforts of the Republican Party to steal the elections. Since the presidency was never anything to him but some kind of reality-TV popularity contest, Trump will see this as proof that he is a despised loser. I mean, he is, of course, but he won’t be able to deny it any longer. He may hold onto his pattern of denial for a short period – perhaps only days – while claiming that the elections were “rigged” and “unfair” and the lamestream media worked hand-in-glove with the Democrats, and all the usual evasions.
But when his excuses and accusations have run out and he’s been reliably informed that it’s over, he won’t stay. I’m guessing he’ll tantrum his way out of the White House and refuse to serve the remainder of his term. Possibly he’ll trash the Lincoln Bedroom or set fire to the Resolute desk on the way out; somebody should keep an eye on that stuff. Maybe he’ll just retreat to Mar-a-Lago, settle into a permanent sulk, and refuse to even go through the motions of presidenting.
Either way, the ship of state will be left rudderless. There will be an unprecedented period of uncertainty and confusion, which no one will know quite how to handle. The country will be rife with fear, rumors and, of course, conspiracy theories of all kinds. The doomsday-preppers, armed militias, and sovereign citizens will no doubt feel that their time has come. However, we will manage to stumble through until the new administration is sworn in on Jan 21, 2021.
So there’s my prediction – Mesdames, Messieurs, le jeux sont fait!
