DIAMOND AND SILK: FOX’S LAST HIRED, FIRST FIRED

Unless you are an aficionado of performative blackness, you may not be aware of successful grifters, Diamond and Silk, a pair of belligerently “conservative,” black ladies, (Lynnette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson) who make a lucrative career out of kissing Donald Trump’s ass. They began with YouTube posts, followed by invited appearances at his campaign rallies, and then they landed a paying gig at Fox News.

Their schtick is stereotypical-Angry-Black-Woman but without any threatening bite. They come across as ignorant and aggressive, while spewing right-wing talking points, apparently to the delight of MAGA FOX viewers. They support Fox viewers ideologically, make them feel superior, yet enable them to say, “See, we’re not racist!” It’s a trifecta of pandering.

If you are an Old, such as myself, you will remember Archie Bunker, the ur-MAGA, from All In the Family. There’s an episode where Archie is literally unable to hear what black people are saying unless their accent and mannerisms conform to his prejudices. Here’s the clip:

Rock Salt and Tyvek had a good run on Fox, until the time came to find a scapegoat for Fox’s reckless lying about the Covid-19 pandemic. Quartz and Orlon had been delivering pandemic misinformation like the pros they are:

Is this being deliberately spread? Look, I’m not being a conspiracy theorist, this is real, but I’m asking my own questions. What the hell is going on?” [Diamond]
Silk, meanwhile, baselessly asserted that the disease was “man-made” and “engineered,” wondering aloud if there was a “little deep-state action going on behind the scenes.” She also questioned whether the World Health Organization had a “switch” to “turn this virus on and off?

Patheos, April 30, 2020

How, gentle reader, is that different from…

Hannity: … liberals are blowing the disease out of proportion to “bludgeon Trump with this new hoax”
Jesse Waters: “I’m not afraid of the coronavirus, and no one else should be that afraid either”
Jeannine Pirro: “all the talk about coronavirus being so much more deadly [than the flu] doesn’t reflect reality”
Trish Regan: “Many in the liberal media using, and I mean using, coronavirus in an attempt to demonize and destroy the president”

GQ April 7 2020

But did Fox make an example of big-name (WHITE) pundits pushing Trump’s line about the virus? OF COURSE NOT! The two black ladies got fired. Okay, to be fair, they also dumped Trish Regan because of a pending lawsuit and because, though not black, she’s relatively unknown compared to the big names like Hannity and Judge Jeannine.

Lucky for us, gentle reader, the victims of these firings, regardless of color, are terrible people, and we don’t have to feel sorry for them. What did they think was going to happen, anyway? Live by the sword, die by the sword.
