WHAT ARE THEY SAYING ABOUT COVID-19?
Fox News noisily grinds its gears as it shifts from “Covid-19 is a democrat hoax” to “Trump is a Churchillian Leader facing down an epic threat to America.” There’s been some cognitive dissonance for a couple of days now while right-wing talking heads flipped and flopped….
As recently as Friday, March 13th, Rush Limbaugh remained firmly in the mock-and-belittle camp:
“We’re
shutting down our country because of the, the cold virus, which is what
coronaviruses are [….] can you imagine our enemies watching this? You
think the Chinese are not laughing themselves silly over how easy this
has been?”
He also accused Democrats of using
coronavirus to shut down primary elections: “Louisiana is the first
state to postpone its Democrat primary because of the coronavirus.
Playing right into whose hands? Plugs’! Right into what James Carville
and Jim Clyburn want [….] By the time the coronavirus fear is over with,
Plugs will already have been declared the nominee.”
In
general, the loony-tunes shock troops of the fringe Right are
continuing to encourage people to defy the advice of the experts to
isolate, poo-pooing the dangers of Covid-19, and accusing the media/left
of hysteria. I’m talking about the real bottom feeders like, for example….

It
will be interesting to see how long it takes them to bring their ship
around and fall into line. It’ll be even more interesting if they don’t.
Hannity, on the other hand, quickly pulled a complete about-face in the course of a few days and is proclaiming Trump the Great Leader who has convened the hero businessmen to step up and save us all because capitalism/innovation/USA/MAGA, etc. Hannity’s a quicker weasel than those other guys, and is in personal contact with Trump.

on Friday March 6, before the switcheroo : “Everything that you hear
and see on television, on the radio, from any Democrat, you gotta —
everything now has to be viewed through the prism of, oh, this is about
the election.”
Hannity
on Friday March 13: “We are witnessing what will be a massive paradigm
shift in the future of disease control and prevention. A bold new
precedent is being set. The world will once again benefit greatly from
America’s leadership. [It] will give us reason to be proud as a
country…. You’re witnessing history in the making and with the help of
the most amazing companies in this country, private-sector companies,
the administration has now created what will be the most robust plan,
never tried before, to battle the coronavirus across all 50 states.”
