THE DARK BEFORE THE DAWN

Mood 2020

How are we today, fam? Balanced on a knife-edge over a chasm of fascism on one side and plague on the other? Filled with dread and foreboding? I feel ya. But MassMiss is seeing signs of hope, namely:

And the classic right wing media noise machine is just cranking out the same old stuff like that slightly creepy guy down at the garage or the coffee shop. He repeats the same rant/joke every time, and in the end you’re less offended than just deeply bored. Here’s Rush Limbaugh on July 31, singing the same-old hits of yesteryear: self-pity and reminiscing about his glory days. He harks back to 1992 when he was on the Bill Buckley show sneering at the notion of changing the name of the Redskins, and to that time Sally Jessy Raphael (who?) was mean to him. He gives a few nods to the present, like slamming Dr. Fauci for not supporting using Covid to suppress dissent, but his real interest is in old grievances, most of them personal. Notice how he tries to loop in his listeners with their own grievances — my kids roll their eyes when I talk!:

Sean Hannity is more focused on the here-and-now than Limbaugh, but he’s a lot younger — he probably doesn’t remember half the stuff Rush goes on about. Even so, he can’t leave Obama alone, nor the imaginary past injustices to Trump, insisting that Comey somehow damaged Trump’s candidacy instead of giving Donnie Bone-Spurs a last-minute assist to score the final win.
