ALL POLITICS IS LOCAL: MASS MAGA
Massachusetts is considered a deep-blue state but we have plenty of MAGAs, along with a local media ecosystem that nourishes them in the form of tabloids, radio shows and FaceBook “personalities.” Let’s take a look!
First up: Howie Carr: Howie, Howie, Howie. I can’t believe he’s still around, he must be older than dirt. Decades ago he wrote for The Boston Herald. Which became The Boston Herald Traveler, which became The Record American, which became The Boston Herald American, which became The Herald American (or as we called it, The Horrid American, so witty) which was then bought by Aussie evil-genius-media-tycoon Rupert Murdoch and renamed, in a stroke of originality, The Boston Herald. It’s the circle of tabloid life.
Howie hasn’t got much to offer beyond longevity — he doesn’t have Rush Limbaugh’s sly, raucous energy, and his ideas are recycled GOP talking points: dog-whistle racism; anti-immigration; various get-off-my-lawn complaints about … restaurant hand-washing? I don’t even know. Lately he’s mostly attacking Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker(R) for not re-opening businesses fast enough. But he’s still relevant! He got to interview Donald J. Trump! Just now, on July 9! And he wasn’t sycophantic and groveling AT ALL! Just kidding, he totally was. Donnie “Bone Spurs” is a Republican mobster and criminal, unlike the Bulger brothers. Howie Carr went after those guys with both barrels back in the day, a little bit because they were murder-y crooks but mostly because they were Democrats. Somehow Trump’s lethal treachery and constant money-laundering doesn’t bother Howie at all — let’s go to the tape…
You can skip it if you want, it’s just the usual: Trump rambles, whines, praises himself, then pities himself, then blames Obama: wash, rinse, repeat. Howie nods along in admiration and sympathy. Here’s the transcript, but imagine Sarah Cooper acting out the Trump lines. She is a lovely young lady, her Trump imitations are brilliant, and her lip-synchs are the only way I can bear to listen to him. Literally.
LOWER DOWN THE SCALE: DIANA PLOSS
Diana Ploss is a local, bottom-of-the-barrel, political “celebrity,” at the opposite end of the fame arc from Howie Carr. She started out as a “normal” Republican, attending the 2016 RNC Convention in support of John Kasich. But then she fell for Trump. Big time. Here she is with her hero:
She’s not published in any big-name publications but has a talk-show gig with WSMN in New Hampshire. Mostly she exists on FaceBook and YouTube, as “an America First Activist, passionate 2A Advocate, and loyal supporter of President Donald J. Trump.” However, from time to time, she turns up at real-world events, to the horror of all concerned. You really need to watch this video of her FREAKING OUT at some innocent hardhats in Swampscott painting arrows on the sidewalk (to help people social-distance.) She’s all THIS IS TYRANNY!! THIS IS COMMUNISM!! at them. Later she tweets:
In case you’re wondering, Agenda 2030/Agenda 21 is a conspiracy theory whereby the globalist Illuminati are going to take over everything, eliminate gender by spraying everyone with chemtrails, and cause worldwide economic collapse, because, who knows.
In short, this lady is several fries short of a happy meal.
AND NOW, IN LATE BREAKING NEWS! and thanks to alert reader CM, we have just learned that Ploss lost her radio gig yesterday for acting the way she acts:
A New Hampshire radio host has been fired after filming herself harassing a group of Hispanic landscaping workers in a racist tirade sparked after she heard them speaking in Spanish. Dianna Ploss, a former host for WSMN radio, had been on her way into the studio in downtown Nashua on July 10 when she happened upon a group of laborers working along the roadside. Ploss apparently became incensed when she heard a Caucasian worker from Morin’s Landscaping speaking Spanish to his Hispanic colleagues.

So she’s off the air, and Tucker Carlson of Fox News fame is taking a “long-planned vacation” right after his lead writer Blake Neff, got canned for “secretly posting racist and sexist remarks in online forum.” I hate keeping score (not really) but, counting Neff, that’s 3 – 1, our team vs. the MAGA propaganda mill.
